The first time breathwork ever clicked for me, I was lying on my back with my heart rate monitor on. I had just gone through something stressful and my heart was pounding at 120 beats per minute. I started a slow 4 7 8 breathing pattern. Inhale for four. Hold for seven. Long exhale for eight.
Within minutes, my heart rate dropped into the 60s. I felt my entire system settle. It was the first time I experienced real control over my internal state.
That moment shaped how I think about training. Breath, bracing, and controlled intensity are foundational skills. When an athlete learns to regulate their system under load, everything improves: strength, power, recovery, mood.
